The Norman de Brackinghe exhibition in Hong Kong’s Picture This Gallery – abstract expressionist photography ‘finding inspiration in the unnoticed beauty of decaying and distressed walls’. December 2014.
Mini thank-you-cup-cakes to run around the office with, on Friday 14th March, after 4 wonderful and learning-filled years with Prudential Hong Kong. ~18% year-on-year topline growth annually and ~25% headcount increase over the 4 year period, meaning important challenges and lessons around how to grow an organisation sustainably, in a way that’s healthy and rewarding for the people involved and the community in which you operate.
A privileged experience for which I’ll be forever grateful. March 2014.
The HK version involved 9 people including: an Overseer; someone who looked like your Grandad (to take care of the small touches / make you laugh / gently cut your shoe out of the fuse box); and one person at any given moment commenting on the progress of the 8 others. An hour and a half for lunch, and immense amusement at my sitting on the sofa wrapping 22 HR leaving presents in Union Jack wrapping paper. The UK 2010 equivalent 4 years previous involved 2 men, equally kind, in and out in an hour and a half, who packed my entire home quicker than it takes me to pack for a 2 week holiday. March 2014.
A traditional Chinese banquet, with a contemporary Northern Chinese cuisine twist, and the HK HR team. Arguably the best views across the harbour over to the sparkling jewels of HK island, amid atmospheric Chinese decor and reflections on the changes we’ve all seen over the past 4 years. March 2014.
Hutong, Aqua Restaurant Group. Hong Kong, Beijing, London.
Silk duvets are apparently all the rage in London. According to colleagues, the Chinese have been at it for generations and the best place to pick one up is the Yue Hwa Department Store, at Jordan. I have it on very good authority, discussed entirely in Cantonese (lots of pointing), that Double Happiness or Double Horse, and Winter (as opposed to Summer) are the ones you need to go for. March 2014.
